This is a page from my picture book, When Bear Stole the Chinook. It is part of a video collaboration that uses my book illustrations combined with the music of the well-known Native Blackfeet musician, Jack Gladstone. I am honored that it is nominated for the 2013 Native American Music Awards best short video.Please see my blog if you're interested.

Love the bold and bright hues and patterns that paint this winter scene in vibrant colors! Love the patterns on the Native Americian Indians shawls (especially the one with the sun as that the juxtaposition of warmth to the cold of the blanket of snow on the ground is a wonderful contrasts) as they look to the horizon and the misty mountains. Echoing the shapes of the mountain peaks in the background are the colorful and eyecatching tee pees in the foreground that have stories of buffalo and bears painted on them. HI Chrystyne, You kind words really made my day! This is an image from one of my children's picture books, When Bear Stole the Chinook. My challenge in the book was thought the entire story is in winter, I wanted to bring life through color and pattern for children. I studied the incredible crafts and art of the Blackfeet and I think it worked pretty well. I am so happy you like it!
